Sunflowers on the horizon, market garden goodness and summer farm update

If you’re hoping for a colourful summer experience, our sunflower maze and cornfield will be in full bloom in March 2023!

Our market garden, cornfield and sunflowers have been thoroughly watered by La Nina and are soaking in the benefits of our regenerative farming systems. Two new polytunnels have been built in the market garden and are home to many tomato plant varieties and cucumbers, with produce flying off our farm shop’s shelves.

As well as fruit and veg, our garden has been busily planted to attract and feed pollinators, birds, and native wildlife. With warm and wet weather, we’ve struggled with caterpillars but overcame the infestation using Bugs 4 Bugs, an organic and natural pest management, finding predatory insects for certain pests. Our stonefruit trees are full of peaches and nectarines, soon to be ripe and juicy.
Even more local treats have been added to our shop’s stock including jams and chutneys, various infused honey and flavoursome garlic bulbs, come on down to stock up on ingredients for a week of delicious, local meals!

We’ve welcomed two new sheds of chooks over the Summer break, and they have started laying and providing delicious pullet-sized eggs for our little shop shelves. Pullet eggs are nutrient-dense and viscose, perfect for poaching and baking. There will be plenty more over the next couple of months as we cycle through flocks. Get in touch if you’re interested in some old birds perfect for backyard layers.

We’ve been busily planting more trees and have added more beehives. We’re looking forward to sharing the honey with you in our farm shop and adding another farm-direct product to our shelves. Our sheep milk dairy has been tabled for a little while due to a few family members being badly injured, but we look forward to resuming our build and adding to Canberra’s food culture. Don’t worry, we’re on the mend now, and it was an opportunity not to take good health for granted.

Finally, our lamb box season has ended, but we will be back again in a few months. Follow our socials or sign up for the newsletter to be up to date with what's in season and exciting plans to come!
